Sourcing And Pulping

The two common materials used for custom paper cups for coffee and other beverages are as follows:

• Virgin bleached kraft (VBK)
• Solid bleached sulfate (SBS)

Virgin fibres have high strength and purity. On the other hand, solid bleach fibres contain recycled fibres, and the chances of their presence are high. Nonetheless, we thoroughly wash the fibres and ensure that no hazardous elements remain in the pulp. The resulting pulp is spread on the Fourdrinier or Twin-wire machine, which drains excess water from the pulp and forms a sheet to manufacture custom paper cups wholesale. Bleaching And Purification

Single-Sided Vs. Double-Sided PE Lamination

After the production of paperboard, a thin layer of low-density polyethene is applied to the paper. This layer is extruded and applied as an aqueous dispersion. Single as well as double-sided application of the layer is done based on the requirement and the type of beverage you have to serve. For instance, you have to serve hot beverages, then a single-sided layer is enough. This gives custom single-walled paper cups that are sufficient for hot beverages.

In case of cold beverages, the polyethene layer is applied on both sides of the paper because condensation occurs on the external side of the paper, and the paper can tear. Adhesives And Chemicals Used

Dry-Strength Additives

Cationic starch is modified with a quaternary ammonium group that easily absorbs into anionic cellulose fibres. The combination of them neutralises the charges and creates additional fibre-to-fibre bonds that increase the tensile and burst strength of the paper.

We also use Polyacrylamide derivatives that are high molecular weight synthetic resins. When they are added to the pulp, they boost dry strength and sheet integrity. Typically, we add polyamide acrylamide from 0.2 % to 0.1% of the weight. Nonetheless, optimal performance is obtained at 0.5 % to 0.8 %.

Water And Solvent-Based Adhesives

Water-based adhesives are used for the manufacturing of custom paper cups in the NZ due to their good tack. These adhesives use acrylic or styrene acrylic dispersions that are low odor and are food safe. Aside from this, these adhesives are easy to recycle because there are no solvent residues in them.

Solvent-based adhesives are usually polyurethane and rubber-based, which deliver high initial tack and resistance to heat as well as moisture. Albeit these adhesives require careful regulatory compliance because of the presence of volatile organic compounds in them.

In natural polymers, dextrins are commonly used. Dextrin is an acid-roasted starch that forms a strong yet biodegradable bond with the paper. Sometimes, protein-based adhesives are also used, which are derived from soy and casein for robust adhesion.

GSM Of Papers Used

The common GSMS are:
